Windows 95/98 - windows 95 administrator
Expert: Kevin - 8/31/2008
Question granddaughter was given an old pc running windows 95, works fine but memory is full-with lots of garbage games, files, icq, aol, etc. The darn computer thinks its still
in a network, and we don't know the password. How can we change the administrator so we can delete some of the trash without the password. Any help you can give would be so appreciated (tried opening in safe mode but could not change admin. in there)
Answer Hi Helen, it will depend on how Windows 95 was setup. This password screen you have, is it a standard Windows 95 login screen or does it mention other things like Novell on it?
If it's the standard Windows login screen, you can hit the Esc key to login without a password. Once you are in, do a search for:
*.pwl
When it finds those .pwl files, just delete all of them. They contain the passwords to the logins. Now logout and you should be able to login as the administrator with no password.
Kevin.
