Windows 95/98 - changing laptop from xp to run 95/98

Question Hi there a friend is trying to split PCs disc drive to get win xp and 95/98 to run side by side can this be done. although he has split disc drive he cannot get the computer to accept this with ease although i know this can be done can you help in any way as i have a number of xp discs and still have 95/98 ones to hope you can help JRB
Answer Hi John, it won't run side by side as in simultaneously, but it will allow you to select which one you want to startup with. This is called a dual boot. Which version of Windows does he have installed now? If Windows 95/98, he should be able to just insert the XP CD and run the install. Make sure he selects a new install and installs it on the second partition where Windows 95/98 does NOT reside. XP should see an older version of Windows and when you create a new install, it should create a boot menu for you to select Windows 95/98 or Windows XP.
