Question
what are the steps required for installing and  how to partion win XP

Answer
Hi thuso, do you know if your computer meets the minimum requirements to run Windows XP? Take a look at the below link:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307726

Choose XP Home or Pro depending on which version you want to install. See if your hardware will run XP or not after that.

In terms of installing and partitioning using Windows XP, it's pretty straight forward. Just insert the CD and boot from it. Follow the on-screen instructions. Right before you install Windows XP, there is a screen for you to delete and create partitions. That's where you will be partitioning your hard drive(s).
