Windows 95/98 - Is DOS the Kernel of the Windows OS?

Expert: Kevin - 6/10/2009

Question
Is DOS the Kernel of the Windows OS, with Windows providing the GUI only?

Answer
Hi Nikhilnath,

It depends which version you are referring to. If it's Windows 98, then yes, it's using DOS. If it's Windows 2000 or XP, it's using the NT kernel.

Kevin.
