Windows 95/98 - windows 95 restore date

Expert: Kevin - 7/8/2009

Question
How do I restore a windows 95 computer to a previous date?
If you can restore it how far back can you go back. The computer has not been used much since that date.
Is there a way to get pictures off the computer that have been deleted and the recycle box has been emptied.
the computer has a windows 95 operating system
Thanks,
Mike

Answer
Hi Mike, there is a restore feature for Windows 95, but it's to restore the registry file and not data files.

Since this computer has not been used much since that date, you might still be able to recover most, if not all, those files. They are not actually gone until new data has been written over that space they occupied.

I suggest using Restoration to see if it can find and recover those files:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/Restoration.shtml

There are a handful of free recovery tools available. You might want to test them out yourself to see if they help:

http://www.google.com/search?q=free+data+recovery+software&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=...

Otherwise, if all those fail, you might want to consider buying a more high end application:

Try the demo first to see what it found and if they are recoverable. If you like the results, pay for it and start recovering your files.
