AboutMichael Troy Expertise I have lots of answers for problems with defrag, clock time, performance, system resources, problems with passwords, opening files, etc. I also probably know of a freeware/shareware application for anything you want to do: sharing Internet, firewalls, games, utilities, graphics, audio, etc.
Experience I am the Director of Information Systems for a large law firm. I handle all sorts of hardware and software problems for over 300 users who use Windows 95/98. I also have a home network of six computers.
Question QUESTION: I have a Windows 98SE computer with 128mb ram and an AMD 700 CPU.
The computer works just fine for our needs but the Canon BJC-3000 printer decided it no longer wanted to do anything but flash blinking lights at me. I went and bought an Epson NX100 printer as the box said it was "Compatible with Windows and Macintosh".
After opening the box the manual says minimum requirements are Widows 2000+. It's a real nice printer/scanner/copier and I only paid $28 bucks for it so I'll keep it no matter what. Is there any way or workaround that will allow me to install this printer to this Win98 system or is it still possible to upgrade this old system up one step to Win2000. I sure don't want to have to buy a new computer just to replace a printer. I also realize my computer is 9 yrs old and is getting close to retirement age, but not just yet.

ANSWER: Hi Dan,
Canon does not ship Windows 98 drivers any more, but I believe you may be able to download a compatible print driver.
Go to http://software.canon-europe.com and type in your printer model: BJC3000 and your OS Win. 98. You should be routed to a printer driver that will work for you.
I hope this helps!

QUESTION: Mike, it's the new printer I bought, the Epson NX100, that I would like to be able to use with Windows98SE. Not the old Canon BJC-3000. Can you direct me to an Epson source of software which may enable me to use the Epson NX100 with Win98SE.
Dan
Answer You may be out of luck then. Epson does not make a driver for Windows 98. You may be able to try some drivers from older Epson printers and may get lucky if one of them works for you. But there are no guarantees with that, and you may end up having to try a several.
The only other possible option is if you use this Win. 98 as a second computer and have another newer printer on your network. In that case, you can install the printer on the newer computer, then share it to the 98 computer. The older computer can use the drivers on the new computer to do the printing. But if you have to have this computer connected to this printer, it probably will not work.
