Windows NT - Close open files

Expert: Chris Schuh - 5/8/2006

Question
Hello!

My name is Assaf and I have a question regarding closing open files in windows NT. I have a network of 100 workstations and my main server is Windows NT base. I'm backing up all the datat every night but some users do not shut down their computers and therefore some files are still open and I cannot backup open files. I was wondering if there's a procedure that I can automate that can close all the open files before the backup starts. For example, is there a batch file I can create the will close the files or what other techniques I can do?

Thank you in advance,
Assaf!

Answer
Hi Assaf,

Unfortunately, there isn't any software that I know of which will do this automatically. You'll really need to educate your users and let them know that computers that are not fully logged off will not be a part of the backup.

Cheers,

Chris
