Windows NT - File List Maker - Drag and Drop

Expert: Chris Schuh - 6/20/2005

Question
I used to have a great little file list maker. I could drag and drop the list of files that I was burning to CD and then take that list into Freehand. I can't find the program (for free) anymore. Can you recommend one like it?

The Windows 95 Explorer is a powerful file manager that provides various views of your files and a built-in search utility. But one feature it does not offer is a way to use its file lists in other applications. What if you want to send someone a list of the files in a folder or save the results of a file search in a spreadsheet? You can't do it. When you drag a file from Explorer and drop it onto another application, you get the file's contents, not its name. The only way to get Windows 95 to give you a list of filenames is to open a DOS window and run the DIR command, with the output redirected to a file.

Answer
Hi Tom,

That's a pretty neat piece of software, but I have to apologize as I don't know of any other recommendations because I've never used a tool like this before. What I could do is take a review of some Google Search results for you and see which ones look better to me - I'm not sure if that would help you out, though. Let me know!

Cheers,

Chris
