Windows NT - NTBackup 2000 on XP?

Expert: Michael Hollands - 3/11/2004

Question
Just bought a new computer, came with Windows XP home edition installed, no CD. I want to use the backup option but it is not installed. Its available on the Win XP Home Edition CD. The seller wants money for the CD.
I have the 2000 Pro CD for my older system. Can I just take a copy of NTbackup.exe from the 2000 system and put it on the new XP sys? Any other ideas?
Thanks,

Answer
Two things -

1 - You should report the seller to Microsoft, as what he is asking is against the law.

2 - I am not sure if you can use it or not.  If you try it, it shouldn't harm anything if it fails.

There is a possibility that the seller put a copy of the XP files on the hard drive, so you may want to search your drive for the required files.

Good luck.
