Windows NT - mapped drive and antivirus

Expert: Chris Schuh - 9/25/2007

Question
Hi,
I have found that the antivirus will not scan a mapped drive from my W2000 computer to my NT4.0 server.  I even read that this was not possible...I forget the terminology.  On the other hand, it appears that the antivirus I have on a different NT4.0 backup server on the same domain and also has the drive mapped to the NT4.0 server IS actually scanning the contents of the mapped drive.  What is your take on that?

Answer
Hi Carl,

It really depends on the antivirus software that you're using. You'd have to read the details about what will and will not work for scanning mapped drives. This could be a feature or limitation of the software, or it could be a setting on the backup server that isn't matching on the other computer.

Cheers,

Chris
