Windows NT - web security

Expert: marge0227 - 10/7/2003

Question
windows xp professional

i have 2 accounts in my windows xp
the first 1 is administrator account and the other one is a limited account.
when you turn on the computer you much choose whice account you want to get into the computer...i hope i am making sense here.
anyways....in the administrator account i can increase and decrease web security as in the higher the security would mean i would not be able to access porn websites-gore-bad words-stuff of that sort.
the lower the sercurity the more exposure there is to these kind of things.
i am sure you know what i am talking about now.
anyways....
i created a secound account with limited abilities (the secound account is not an administrator account) whice i called it SAFE ZONE.
now...when i go into my administrator account and increase the web security to it's highest...i am unable to access the stuff i was telling you above and same goes for the safe zone account.
now....when i reset the security to it's lowest and leave the administrator account and go into the safe zone account (limited access) and increase the web security in there it won't work because only the administartor can only do that.
what i want is to be able to increase the web security in the limited account (safe zone) to it's highest without affecting my administartor account.
in other words....i want my administrator account to get full exposure and the limited account to get maxium sercurity from all of that stuff.
can this be done?
how can it be done?
i sure hope you can help me on this one!

             thanks

Answer
Regarding: USERS WEB CONTENT SETTINGS

Hello Joe,

Thanks again for using AllExperts.  :D

Yes, I can help you with this exercise.

WEB CONTENT SETTINGS for  USER ACCOUNTS

Before you begin, in your Administrator account Content settings, make a password that you will not forget.
That done:
PERFORM STEPS IN THE ORDER AS LISTED
1)  Open Group Policy > Click Start, > and then click Run
2)  Type gpedit.msc >   then click OK.

3)  When Group Policy opens, you will see two options in Local Computer Policy:
Computer Configuration and
User Configuration.
a.) Computer Configuration allows you to set policies that apply to your computer, regardless of who logs on.
b)  User Configuration allows you to set policies that apply to each user who logs on to the computer.

4)  In the Group Policy window click  User Configuration.
5)  In the User Configuration window > select Windows Settings >
6)  Next select Internet Explorer Maintenance > the window will change >
7)  Now, select Security for Zones and Ratings
8)  next window  select Security Zones and Content Ratings
9)  In the Security Zones and Content Ratings window > in frame Content Ratings >
10)  Select option "Import the current ratings and settings" >  the button Modify Settings will activate >
11)   Select button Modify Settings
12)   Enter your Administrator password > the Content Advisor will open, and you can set the levels for USERS that you desire for Language, Nudity, Sex, and Violence > then click OK

Using Group Policy on your computer
You can customize your desktop environment by enabling or disabling different policy settings. For example, you can remove icons from your desktop, customize the Start menu, and simplify the Control Panel using Group Policy. You can also add scripts that will run on your computer when it starts up or shuts down and when users log on or log off, and  as above, you can even configure Internet Explorer.

Glad to help
Margee
