About Michael Troy
Expertise
I have a fair amount of experience in peer-to-peer networking using Windows 95/98. I can answer questions about hardware, networking software, protocol settings, etc. I have some client-server experience, but not a lot with Windows-based servers. I can also give some advice on home network security: VPN, firewalls, anti-virus, etc.

Experience
I am the Director of Information Systems for a large law firm which connects about 300 users over five offices via a wide area network. We use client-server, peer-to-peer, WINS, remote access, VPN, DSL Internet, and proxy servers.

I also have a peer-to-peer network of six computers at home, with file and print sharing, remote access, and shared Internet access with a firewall.

Windows Networking - crossover connection wire sequence?

Expert: Michael Troy - 7/26/2008

Question
hi, i want 2 pc's connect with crossover connection without any hub, switch or router.i mean direct cable.what the sequence wire i punched in the RJ45 connector eg.(orange, whiteorange, blue, whiteblue ....) which sequence is correct please tell me about that,i hope u understand my question. thanks

Answer
The colors are irrelevant.  The key is that the wires be used in the correct order.

You use numbers 1, 2, 3, and 6 to connect.

The following are the wire connections to the pins:

1-3
2-6
3-1
6-2

In other words, the wire that connects to pin 1 on one end, connects to pin 3 on the other end, and so on.

I hope this helps!
