Windows Networking/Help in networking

Question
We have a TCP/IP network consisting of Windows XP, Window 2000 & Windows Vista PCs each having static IP address. Now I have connected a PC with ‘Windows Server 2003’ to this network. I am not using this as a domain controller, but simply as a member of workgroup. I have shared one folder on it named ‘ZDRIVE’.  I am able to access this folder on Windows Vista PCs. On other PCS (Windows XP or Windows 2000 PCs), I am able to ping IP address of this PC (having Windows Server 2003), but not able to see in network & therefore unable to access the shared folder ‘ZDRIVE’.  Please help me in the matter.

Answer
Hi there.

This might simply be a rights issue, in which a user account (i.e. administrator) on the Vista and Server machines has the same userid and password.

If this is only a workgroup...try creating the exact same userids/passwords on the XP and 2000 machines and let's see if that would allow you to connect tot the share.  You may want to create a new userid/password on the server and then create the same userid/password on each station and make sure the sharing of the ZDRIVE is allowed for that user under security.

I hope this gives you some ideas.

Let me know if you are still stuck.

Thanks.
