Question
HI Teckies,

I start by saying i am not one... However i was impressed with a application called "At Home" which i have set up and used in my house. When i use my home network WIFI connection it works great, however when i try to set it up so i can view my rooms from anywhere in the country with a wifi connection, i am being told i need the "external IP address of my Belkin F5D7633-4" before this is possible.

So my question is? how do i find my external IP address for my belkin router and does anyone no how to set this up?

Or is there an EASIER way of accessing my 3 webcams in my house using my iphone or any computer in the world?

Many Thanks in advance...

Answer
hi there mark

yes you need to do what is known as port forwarding. basically setting the devices in such a way that they allow traffic to flow in/outbound. you can enter the IP address of each device in internet explorer or any other browser to be able to configure. here is an example:

assuming port 123 needs to be opened

modem public ip - 164.154.1.54
modem private ip - 192.168.0.1

router wan port - 192.168.0.2
router lan port - 172.16.0.1

device ip - 172.16.0.10

you will have to set port forwarding of port 123 from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.2 ON THE MODEM
you will have to set port forwarding of port 123 from 172.16.0.1 to 172.16.0.10 ON THE ROUTER

hope i was of help and pls dont forget rating :)
