Windows Networking/Wireless Adapter problem

Question
Hello – hope you can help.
I am running Windows XP SP3 and IE 8
Laptop running perfectly this morning until I tried to uninstall Adobe Reader manually by the process  (http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/problems-uninstalling-reader.html) and worked down to No 16 in “Remove Adobe Reader 8.0 registered files using the command prompt”
The last part didn't recognise the files so I had to stop at that point and then found that I had no icons in the task bar and no icons in the Device manager.
After enabling the Plug and Play all appeared but I still have no wifi icon nor internet access. I had the following message when I clicked on the Intel icon in the task bar: Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Software was unable to detect a supported adapter.  Please install a supported adapter and also that no supported wireless adapters available in the system.
In device Manager it appears to be enabled and working correctly with the most updated driver
Unfortunately due to a previous problem I had no restore point to go back to.
I tried running the WinsockXP Fix but that made no difference.

I have added the Hijack report in case you need it.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Answer
HI there.

Sorry for my delayed response.  In this kind of situation, you've taken the right diagnostic steps.  Sometimes, what happens is that a wireless driver might get corrupted, and because of this, it will no longer work/be detected.  I might suggest this.

Go into the DEVICE MANAGER and under network adapters, click on the + sign, and you should see your wireless and wired connections listed.  (I am assuming you have a laptop with a built in wireless device).

Where you see the wireless network adapter, right click on it and you may see the option for delete or uninstall.

Right after you do this, shutdown the computer.  Then start it up.  Typically, the wireless card will wake up and prompt you to install drivers.  This might simply fix the problem you are having.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks.
