Windows Networking - Ethernet port

Expert: Sean Oriyano - 10/7/2007

Question
Hi,
The problem started when I had a real bad storm a couple of weeks ago.  I have a compaq presario and port where I plug my ethernet cord in does not blink and it tells me that it is unplugged, but I have a wireless router that is connected to the desktop and I can connect to my router on my laptop just fine. But I just can't get on the internet on the desktop.  I tried plugging the modem directly to the computer and it still doesn't light up.  I used new cables and still nothing.  I used the help base program to uninstall the adapter card and reinstall it and still nothing.  Please advise.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Adrienne,

Sounds like you might have a damaged network card on your desktop, luckily those are pretty cheap to replace.  I suggest you first try plugging the desktop in using a regular cable (if you have the card to see if that is OK.  If that works you might just have a bad wireless card.
