Answer Dear Pamela,
Sorry for late response. I was on vacation. ok lets solve ur problem. First tell me what is ur internet connection. I mean dial-up or cable or something else? If it is dialup u will get an ip address automatically from the server ur dialing. Or if it is cable, there the problem arises i think. If ur in the lan, the cable connection will be sharing, ur network admin gives u an ip address for the purpose of sharing of internet and files on ur local area network. if u have an ip address that is already allocated, u will get conflict message. or if u have private range ip (for ex. 192.168.1.x, 10.10.10.x ranges) u will get some error messages regarding ip address. to solve this u have to change the properties of network connection. Go to control panel-->Network connections---->right click Local Area Connection--->Select networking tab--->double click TCP/IP--->select obtain ip automatically and restart. I think it will solve ut prob. if it is not feel free to ask more.
