Windows Vista - Vista trouble with Internet

Expert: Saad Shawwa - 10/5/2008

Question
I just bought a brand new computer with Vista Home Premium (SP1) and I cannot get the internet to work.  It comes up, but mostly it just searches and takes forever to get anywhere if it ever gets there at all.  I'm on my home wireless network (as I type this I am on my XP laptop just fine with my Vista laptop sitting in front of me).  Is there something I can do to get the internet to work on the Vista computer?  Thanks!  I am pretty computer literate so you can be detailed.  I have already checked all of the DHCP settings and everything is as it should be.

Thanks!

Answer
Hello Dani how are you doing

try disabling IPV6 on the wireless connection adapter

Step 1. click the Start menu, Control Panel, and Network Connections.

Step 2. In your Network Connections folder, click on the properties of all your wireless network connection, and choose the Networking tab. You will see the option for Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6). There is a check box next to this item.

Step 3. Clear this check box. You have now disabled IPv6 from your LAN interfaces and connections. then recheck your settings again on TCP/IPv4 and make sure they are correct and then press ok and apply, disable the wireless adapter and then enable it again , then connection to your wireless network and check it out.

*note* if you fill the ip addresses manually in the wireless connection properties , try to set it to assign ip address automatically by DHCP.

if you need more help feel free to contact me back anytime
take care and good luck.
