About James Milligan
Expertise
Experience with Windows 2000, XP, and of course Vista. I currently run Vista Home Premium, as it is the most common, on my main computer. I also have an XP desktop, and a Linux laptop - all bases covered! I'm eager to answer any question you throw at me. If you have a question, and I know the answer, then I will answer it straight away. If I don't know the answer, I will search the internet and ask other experts in the field about it - I am determined to answer every question asked!

Experience
I've used Windows computers since an early age, and have used Vista since the day it came out. I use it on my main computer, and customise it a great deal. I regularly help people setting up their computers, and maintaining them. I'm used to novices and experts alike, and don't believe in just literally fixing a problem - I like to explain why the problem occurred and how it can be fixed in the future.

Windows Vista - vista / xp gaming question

Expert: James Milligan - 9/3/2008

Question
We are about to purchase a new laptop for our son, the OS will be Vista (Home Premium probably). All our other machines are XP and our son has a lot of XP (and 98) games. We are getting conflicting advice about whether or not his games will work on the new machine.  Help!

Answer
XP games should work OK with Vista, but some might need the compatibility option checked (ask for further instructions).

98 games might be temperamental, but could work OK again with the compatibility option checked.

Generally speaking, most modern games (within the last 2-4 years) will work, anything older is hit and miss.
