Windows Vista - downgrade windows

Expert: Sean Oriyano - 9/22/2007

Question
I got a dell laptop with XP already installed. I upgraded to Vista, but now I want to go back to XP. When I put the XP installation disc into my disc drive, the "install windows XP"  option is unavailable. How do I downgrade from Vista to XP?

Answer
Hi Jaxon,

There are only two ways to do what you are asking.

First, boot the computer off the XP cd and reformat the drive (you will lose everything on the drive so back it up first).

Second, get the original OEM install disks from Dell and install it from there.  You will have to get these from Dell if you don't have them.

Sean
