Windows Vista - printer drivers

Expert: Sean Oriyano - 9/16/2007

Question
I just bought a new computer that has windows vista on it.  I already had a hp Office Jet 1150c multifunction printer.  When I went to the HP website to download the printer driver it said the printer I have wouldn't work with Vista.  This really sucks.  Is there a way to get vista to work with my printer which may be about 10 years old, but still functions perfectly.  I'd rather put a previous operating system on my new PC than to throw away a perfectly good printer and buy a new one.

Answer
Hi Corky,

The only way you would be able to get this printer to work with Vista might be via emulation.  Basically, emulation means you find what other makes and models of printer your current printer can act like and load the drivers for it into Vista.  For example, if you printer says that it can use the drivers for a Laserjet 4 you would use those drivers in Vista instead of the ones for that model which don't exist.

Sean
