AboutTroy M. MCSE, CNA, MCP, CST, IC3, Aplus Expertise Hi there! Even though I am new around here, I have been having great fun with PCs for over two decades now, becoming familiar with Windows through versions 3.x/9x/Me/2000/XP/2003. I enjoy helping others with what I feel is an exciting industry - computers are always changing, improving and offering new opportunities for learning.
I look forward to assisting you with questions concerning Windows, how it interacts with your PC Hardware, configuration/settings or just general tips and ideas.
Besides troubleshooting questions, feel free to ask the basics, as well. I will always start there, and I firmly believe that there is no such thing as a dumb question - we are all ‘Beginners’ at one time or another!
Experience I am an Aplus Certified [the 'plus sign' is unviewable here currently], Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer with Computer Service Technician and LAN Administration diplomas and 10 years direct experience with PCs including assembly, troubleshooting/support and upgrading.

Question i recently installed a new modem on my WindowsXP and now every time that i try to connect to the internet my service provider sends me an eeror message of 11 (ras man) i am no my neighbors computer, but i still cant log on to the intedrnet at my house.. when i called my service provider "MSN" they told me that it was Microsofts problem.
What can i do?
Answer Hello Abby,
When people ask for help with problems, you may find that each contact (vendor, manufacturer, Internet Service Provider, etc) feels they can only help ‘so far’ and will direct you to the other companies for assistance. This is not only to save themselves work, but it also saves them from stepping over each others’ toes and trying to handle things they aren’t prepared to/cannot handle, based on their areas of expertise – don’t let it harden you – you will eventually find the help you need if you continue looking.
RAS stands for Remote Access Services and is part of WindowsXP and allowing it to access other systems and allow other computers to access your computer for things such as Remote Assistance, where someone connects to your computer from a remote location and attempts to help. It normally wouldn’t just show you an error in this manner and I don’t belive there is an ‘Error 11’ specific to Remote Access Services in Windows.
This leads me to wonder what you meant by Service Provider.. are you getting Internet access/service from MSN? Are you getting it from AT&T, Comcast or another big company? If your actual Internet Service Provider is MSN, they can be contacted at:
1-800-386-5550
Usually, most people have internet access through another local telephone(or cable) company, and they access their Hotmail/MSN service that way. MSN does offer internet access services, I just wanted to make sure that they were your ISP, and if they are, try contacting them.
Hopefully that will at least get you started though, Abby. It was smart of you to use your helpful neighbors system and look for more assistance! I hope you are able to get everything up and running soon. Good luck with it and try to stay positive until then!
