Question
An adware program slipped in and installed on my computer from a company called Virus Protect. The Icon is in my system tray and I have tried to remove it but I can find no reference to it in the msconfig start up menu yet it runs on start up. I have run several spyware programs. One of them said it removed the program but the Icon still exists, blinking on and off. It takes me to their website when I click on it.It keeps launching a balloon that says my computer is unprotected, which is very annoying and causes my cursor to disappear briefly.
Any ideas on how to find and remove this?

Answer
HI Don,

The easiest way to get rid of this is to download one of the well-known antispyware programs.  I recommend Spybot which I use myself, these programs will find and eliminate such annoyances.  The program here is that the people who right these little SOBs hide references to them in obscure parts of the registry and other locations because they know someone will look for them.  Antispyware programs will root them out and eliminate them much quicker than you will find them generally.

Good luck,
Sean
