Windows XP - explorer.exe at startup
Expert: Michael Tedeschi - 10/2/2008
Question QUESTION: Hello,
My computer is Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU [no idea what this means though!] running on Windows XP. Startup had been perfect for a long time, apart from speed, but recently, I think after installing Service Pack 3, after starting up, all I can see is the desktop image and the cursor. Then, I have to go into Task Manager and start a new task, explorer.exe. However, there already is an explorer.exe running before I run the new one, and after I do run it, everything comes to the screen - start menu, taskbar, desktop icons, etc. With Task Manager still open, I can see that the explorer.exe that I opened disappears.
Why do I have to do this and how can I fix this problem?
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks.
ANSWER: Uninstall SP3, this is a known issue.

QUESTION: Hello,
Uninstalled SP3, but no difference.
XP actually loads by itself but only after 1-2 min.
ANSWER: Now that you have uninstalled SP3, click start, run, type msconfig
Press Enter
When the box pops up, choose the startup tab
Tell me everything that has a check. I only need the file name and path.
