Question
My C: Drive has very little space left. I'm trying to remove as much as i can that wont ruin my computer. So i was in Add/remover programs under the control pannel and i saw that i have Microsoft Office professional and standard edition. I only need one right? They are both huge files and it would really help if i could delete one of them. The problem is i dont know which one i've been using. Also under my C: Drive there are a bunch of folders with random letters and number for the name and they are pretty big folders and when i try to open them to see what they are to find out if i can delete them my computer doesn't know how to open them and it says its an unknown file type.

Answer
Hello Andrew,

When you say you have multiple versions of Office, be aware that some versions have certain programs that the others don't and therefore you may have more then one.  What you can do is go to the add/remove programs and choose CHANGE and then choose what parts of the office program you don't need. Thing is, typically you may not actually use it but then you receive an email for example, that is a type of office file that you have on your computer and so it will open, otherwise it would not as you didn't have that program. Thing is, by removing this you may gain a few (hundred) mb of room but now a days that is not very much. For the price of a new hard drive at as low as $50 (for 80 gb or more) you may be better off buying a new drive and then 'cloning' your drive with such software as Acronis True Image (link provided here (reciprocal)

Another thing I would suggest is using the software found in the SOFTWARE/SUPPORT page of my website at http://tpsconsulting.com   as the TIPS page on OPTIMIZING your computer will then have you downloading all the programs from the PINK section as they will help in the safely cleaning and removal of the bugs/old software you may not require.

hope this helps.

sincerely,
