Expert: Lenny Date: 7/13/2008 Subject: Task schedular in WIN XP.
Question QUESTION:
Hi Lenny
I have Win XP and cannot get a scheduled task to run despite programming it in. When I try to schedule a task it does have a section where it recommends a password. However, I do not know what to add if anything. I went to the help section and it states: “To view the security settings for a scheduled task, right-click the task, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.” However, when I go to the scheduled task in start/settings/ control panel, I do not see the Security tab when I right click on the task. How do I get the scheduler to work?
Your help is appreciated,
Regards Richard.
ANSWER: Hi Richard,
The task scheduler information that recommends you clicking on a security tab is based on a Windows Server 2003 Operating System. For Windows XP, the instructions are in the link below;
NOTE:For username and password, please refer to Line 5 of the link above.
Most Welcome,
Kind Regards,

QUESTION: Hi Lenny
Thanks for the letter. I read the info. Line 5 reads:
“Type the name and password of the user who is associated with this task. Make sure that you choose a user with sufficient permissions to run the program. By default, the wizard selects the name of the user who is currently logged on.”
How do I find out my password or do I create one?
The user name that automatically comes up is DUAL-CPU\Administrator
Your help is appreciated,
Regards Richard.
Answer Hello Richard,
The password being asked for is the one that is normally used to log into Windows XP. You will create a password for your Administrator's account which in turn will be used in Task Scheduler. That will be the same password asked whenever you log into Windows in the event of Restart, Shutting Down and Standing By the computer.
To create a password for Windows XP, please follow the link below. Specific instructions from Microsoft are included therein;
