About Ashit Gajwani
Expertise
I will try my best to answer questions on Windows 2000 (x86/x64), Windows XP (x86/x64), Windows Vista (x86/x64). I will probably be able to answer questions involving hardware and device drivers. I've had experience with multi boot environments (2 or more OS on a single pc), recovering from crashes, managing virtual memory. Just drop me a line and chances are I'll be able to help you or direct you to some one who can.

Question
my PC will not read or pick up a cd/dvd when i try to play them.there is a running noise coming from the unit but for some reason it doesn't play. i've checked the device manager and it says that the drive is working, i have also tried updating the driver and this does not work. my dvd/rw drive works fine.

Answer
Hi Barry,

Something could be wrong with your CDR's lens. Try using a lens cleaner. A CDR lens cleaning kit should cost no more than £4. It can be reused about a dozen times and is quite effective.

Let me know if things still don't work out.

Cheers,
Ashit
