About Ray Barham
Expertise
I can answer just about any question that there is when it comes to anything windows related. I have been a computer technician for about 7 years now and I have the knowledge and experience to provide very detailed answers to situations that may be common, everyday problems or issues that the tech at the local best buy couldn't answer.

Experience
I have been in the computer industry for 7 years. In my years in this field, I've served as a computer technician, a consultant, a network engineer, a salesman and both inside and outside technical work.

Organizations
I am the owner / operator of Xtreme PC, located in Elkhart, IN. We specialize in computer repair for a fraction of the cost. We have developed a way to get a computer fixed and shipped back to the customer for less that the local shop in their city would be able to do it for. And we have a 4 business day return policy.

Education/Credentials
I completed all the course to become a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, but I stopped after the first test because I found that I wouldn't make any more money with all 7 test completed as I was making with one

Past/Present Clients
I used to be an expert here. I just got so busy that I couldn't keep up with the amount of questions

Question
hello i have windows xp home edition.  can you tell me what these numbers mean in relation to my system?  total physical memory 256 mb/avail memory 78.45.....total virtual memory 2.00 gb/avail mem. 1.96 gb..... page filing space 824.86 mb.  and windows says "not responding"!  help! Vivian

Answer
Vivian,

I will give you a quick breakdown in answering your question.

Total Physical Memory:  The total amount of memory (ram) that has been install onto the motherboard.  Some memory can come from the motherboard itself or from virtual memory from the hard drive.

Available Memory:  The total amount of memory that is NOT currently being used.

Total Virtual Memeory:  The total amount of memory (ram) that the computer has allocated from the hard drive.  Since the hard drive is a storage device, the space that is used for memory is called "Virtual Memory".

Page Filing Space: That is the service that windows used to save thing to the memory.

If windows isn't responding, shut down the system and restart it.  If it still freezes from time to time, you need to upgrade your memory and run a spyware scan.
