AboutJeffrey Bradley Expertise I can answer questions about Windows XP and 2000 that include installation, setup, how to do certain things with those operating systems (Some examples are un-installing drivers, creating limited accounts, etc.), I can also answer questions about securing wireless networks and most wireless router configuration questions as well. What I can not answer (at least not at this time), is how to write scripts in Vb Script or Windows Scripting Host format.
NOTE: As of 3/29/2008, I have now finished college for my AS degree in Internet Technology! I am now a graduate of Keiser University and in case your courious, I ended up with a 3.6 GPA which means that I will be graduating with honors when I walk in May. (Cum Laude).
It also means that responses should be a lot faster, too. :-)
Thank you.
Experience I have been with Windows since it first came out and involved with computers before Windows even came out (I had the commodore Vic 20). do you know the link to download sp2 for windows xp home edition?
also, where could i download a great firewall and antivirus?

thanks a lot
waiting for your reply
ANSWER: Hi John,
For a good virus scanner, you can grab the free edition of avg antivirus at http://www.avg.com, it also has limited spyware detection, also keep in mind
that with most free programs, you will need to download the updates manually (through the control panel) since the free version won't do it automatically.
As for a firewall that is free, I would recommend the Free version of Zonealarm.
Since the links for the free edition of Zonealarm and the stand-alone install of SP2 are extremely difficult to find, the links below will take you
to their respective download page:
Microsoft Service Pack 2 Full Install (No internet required)
When you get to the actual download site, you may want to bookmark those pages.
At the current time, I would advise not upgrading to SP3 and to stick with SP2.

QUESTION:
Hi, Jeffrey
Thanks a lot for the answer, it was very helpful
I formatted my computer and installed windows xp sp2
Now, whenever I start my computer, it gives me an option
of choosing which operating system i want to start with
the 2 options are Microsoft Windows Home Edition XP
when i pick the first one, it starts normally, but when i pick the second one, it says that there is an error with the operating system and redirects me to the "choose operating system" screen
Why do I have 2 operating systems in my computer after formatting it?
Also, how can I use partition to have 2 diff operating systems? I want to have windows vista on my computer along with my current windows xp. Is that possible??
Thanks a lot
P.S. I dont intend to annoy you with my long question, please, take your time to answer it. again, thanks a lot
Answer First, if you load up normally and right click My Computer and choose properties, then if it's not selected, click the General tab and verify that it says service pack 2 in the information.
If so, then click the advanced tab, click the settings button under Startup and Recovery, then click the edit manually button.
You can paste the contents in a reply here.
As for Vista, it can be done but you may need to shrink your partition unless you have space to create more partitions.
Also, one word of advice, once Vista is installed, Vista will take over the bootloader process and become the boot manager, since Vista doesn't use the boot.ini and other XP boot files, it makes it very hard to remove Vista from the drive, for this reason, I would recommend buying and installing a second hard drive and run Vista from the additional drive.
At least that way if something happens, you can always boot from the XP drives.
