hi i have a dell inspiron B130 laptop from a friend who was in the navy! he was recently killed in iraq! his mom gave me the computer. my problem is this: turn on laptop it boots and says invalid configertion please run setup program. then goes into the screen that say's this computer system is protected by a password authentication system,you cannot access the data on this computer  without the correct password. please type in the system or administrator password and press enter! how do i get around this? i've pulled the cmos battery and the other thing is i bought windows password reset and it is made to boot up off of cdrom drive but i cant even get into cmos or setup! it lets me try to enter a password 3 times then it shuts down after that if not the right password is entered!  Wow" I'm stumped" please help so i can give my friend scoot's mom his stuff from his laptop!  god rest his soul Nick Benscoter AKA Scoot! we all miss and love you!

Answer
Have you tried "dell" as the password?  Sometimes thats what it uses as a default....

And just to verify, you did pull the battery off the motherboard for at lest 10 seconds?

Tell me also, When you first turn the machine on, do you see a blue bar at the top of the screen for a second that says www.dell.com?
