Question QUESTION: Hi Ramon,
I will remind you that my computer is a DELL DIMENSION 8100 computer. It has a Pentium 4 with 1.5 Ghertz chip and 256 MB of RAM.
Today, after clean up and checking for errors, I defragmented my master drive, at the end of which, the report said that there was a 135 KB file that could not be defragmented. Its path is :
C\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS \ TRIGAN \ LOCAL SETTINGS \ TEMP \ PLUGTMP-13 \ PLUGIN-1
Should I delete this file altogether ?
I have gone to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
I have found that there are some programs automatically start up or are on manual. I am a single user on my computer. The computer I have has been bought at an auction and it seems to have been part of an office network. So I am wondering whether I should change the settings to the following services.
Remote Registry is on Automatic. Should I change this to manual or disable ?
Computer Browser is on Automatic. Should I change this to manual or disable ?
Removable Storage is on Manual. Should I change this to automatic ?
Uninterruptable Power Supply is on Manual.
My electricity meter box keeps on switching itself off at random so this is what I would like to fit. Can you tell me more about this ?
Wireless Zero Configuration is on Automatic. I do not have wireless broadband. Should I change this to manual or disable ?
Affinegy Mobility Management Support Service is on Automatic. Should I change this to manual or disable ?
Fast User Switching Compatability is on Manual. Should I change this to disabled ?
Remote Registry is on Automatic. Should I change this to manual or disable ?
Can you tell me the difference between automatic and manual modes please ?
I am not quite sure.
Thank you.
ANSWER: hello trigan
you can leave the plugin where it is it might be in use by some program on your computer thats why it cannot remove it. as for the others note below:
Remote Registry is on Automatic. - leave it
Computer Browser is on Automatic. - leave it
Removable Storage is on Manual. - leave it
Uninterruptable Power Supply is on Manual.- leave it
My electricity meter box keeps on switching itself off at random so this is what I would like to fit.
Wireless Zero Configuration is on Automatic. I do not have wireless broadband. - disable it
Affinegy Mobility Management Support Service is on Automatic. - leave it
Fast User Switching Compatability is on Manual. - leave it
Remote Registry is on Automatic. - leave it
Automatic = the service is started whenever the system starts or is rebooted
Manual = you have to manually start the service through the services MMC console
Dont forget rating :)

QUESTION: Thank you Ramon.
Can you tell me how to get to the MMC console and how to start a service from there ?
Also have you any experience with using an uniterruptable power supply box ? If so, please tell me about it.
Thank you.
Answer its simple!
just click on Start, then on run, and type SERVICES.msc
you mean UPS? yes ...you connect everything to this UPS instead to the mains and then connect the UPS to the mains. this way, if the power goes off the UPS will keep your system ON for a few minutes. some UPS endure even more than a few minutes!
