I have a toshiba satellite and when i try to burn a cd I can not play it in anything but my computer. I have tried several different brands and kinds of discs

Try downloading WinAmp from:

http://www.winamp.com/

The following site explains how to burn a cd and to finalize it which will allow you to play it elsewhere.
