Windows XP/64 bits

Question
Hi Mike,

I want to build a PC with several OS in it. At least Linux, and Windows (not sure which Windows version yet).

I'm going to use the machine for programming Microsoft tools like .NET, so it's going to be a small database and web server, and a client at the same time.

I want the machine to be 64-bits. Which Windows version would be best for software development?

How is better to install these two oper. systems?:
  a. Main OS Windows with option to multiple boot?
  b. Main OS Linux with option to multiple boot?
  c. Have an independent boot utility?
  d. Or other..???

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

Rick

Answer
Hello Rick,

Without a doubt you are going to want to get Windows 7 as your main o/s.  It is by far, the best o/s Microsoft has made to date.   I suggest the Home Premium Edition (64bit) as it has all the bells and whistles you are going to need.  I would then suggest using separate partitions for the other o/s's you plan on installing and using a boot manager to handle which o/s you decide to boot in to.

Sincerely

Expertise

I am proficient with all windows platforms. Installation and maintenance of home/business networks and servers. Windows 7, Vista. If you are still using XP then your system is simply too old to be safely surfing the internet and you should upgrade the operating system to Windows 7. If you have windows xp then your question will simply be forwarded to the question pool as I no longer feel it is worthy of my volunteered time, Since Windows 7 can handle systems with as little as 512mb of RAM memory, you have no excuse to not upgrade. If you are having problems and you are using XP there is no point in asking since the problem is with the operating system. Microsoft has stopped supporting this operating system as it is now over 10 years old.. time to upgrade!
