Question
Hi Lorry,
I am a newbie in this OS. Recently due to Virus problem I got my system formatted and XP SP2 installed. Now the problem is I could not find the Control Panel in Start Menu and when I try to use "Add or Remove Programs" or "Control Panel" from other ways a message saying "This function is not enabled due to restrictions on this system. Contact your System Administrator" is being displayed. Can you help yo solve this.

Thank you in advance.

Answer
Hi Jaya,

Are you signing on as the Administrator?

I think there might still be a problem with a threat, using Internet Explorer, go to:

http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/WelcomePage.asp

Click "Continue to Symantec Security Check", in the next window click No when asked if you want to close this window, that will bring you to a window where you should click Virus Detection.

Write down exactly anything it finds, then go to: http://www.symantec.com/search/  and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing manually. Make sure that you follow the instructions for removal, step by step, especially the part regarding disabling System Restore.

I would also suggest downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware  from:

http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

If the above doesn't work, run the Scan File Checker (SFC), the following site explains how with pictures. Have your Windows XP Cd handy as it will be needed.

Hope this helps!
