Question
I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 and have just re-installed Windows XP. I couldn't get on the Internet (either with the ethernet or the wireless. I tried to extract the internal wireless card (Dell TrueMobile 1180 Internal 802.11b mini-PCI card# from the Dell Systems CD but just get a message that states I can insert hardware now.

How can I successfully get the internet working or how can I get the wireless card to successfully extract? It doesn't even show up in Network Connections #only my 1394 Net Adapter shows up).

Thanks,

Jake

Answer
Hello

You are going to need to get on the internet, from some computer in order to download the necessary drivers. As with all DELL software it comes in the form of an .exe file which will automatically extract and install the various drivers. Typically it will be found in the c:\Dell folder. Therefore if you have the old drive data you could point to this spot however it will be a lot easier if you first go and get the wireless/networking software.  From the following link: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=ca&cs=cadhs1&l=en&s...

I found there are actually 14 different networking drivers based on the location (Japan is different for example)..

Once you do get online, I suggest visiting my website at http://tpsconsulting.com and read the TIPS page on OPTIMIZING your computer. Then go to the SOFTWARE/SUPPORT page and install all the programs from the PINK section as they will help with the cleaning/removal and ongoing maintenance from malware/spyware issues. As well, the tools such as Belarc Advisor and the Everest Diagnostic tools will help determining what other drivers you may require.

Hope this helps,

Sincerely

Mike Dacre
