Answer
Hello Rebecca,

What you are going to want to do is boot your system from your windows vista cd.  Once it boots from the cd, you will have the option to 'repair computer' and this should allow you to repair the start automatically.

If this doesn't work then yes, you are going to have to reinstall windows however when you do this, it should detect the existing windows and will prompt you that the old windows will be saved as 'windowsold' . Regardless I suggest backing up your data.

You might also want to stop by my website at http://tpsconsulting.com and read the TIPS page on OPTIMIZING your computer. Then go to the SOFTWARE/SUPPORT page where I suggest installing all the programs from the PINK section  as they will help with the cleaning/removal and ongoing maintenance from the malware/spyware that causes so many problems and slowdowns.

Hope this helps,

Sincerely

Mike Dacre
