Question
Windows Update Message

I have Xp Pro.

I keep getting a message from Microsoft that updates are available, asking me to do the updates.

Each time I try, the updates fail to process correctly.

Is there a way that I can cancel those updates and keep them from reoccurring, so I can get rid of the message when I want to turn off the computer to "click on this message if I don't want the updates"?

Answer
Hi Steven,

Are you getting an error, if yes, what exactly? Are you using a firewall program, if yes, make that you allow the Windows Update site access. The following site explains How to Fix Windows Update Error 0x80070420 at:

http://www.pchell.com/support/windowsupdateerror.shtml

Regarding how to stop being forced to download the updates, open the Control Panel, double click Security Center, in the next window check "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them", click Apply, OK.

Hope this helps!
Lorry
