Expertise
I can pretty much answer any question related to PC`s. My ratings speak for themselves. All I ask is that you ask the question in English.....I do not understand gibberish and I will ask you to resend the question if I cannot understand it. I will do the best I can answering your questions. I've been working with computers for well over 20 years.

Windows XP - wierd problem with my pc

Question
hi i'm kevin.  I have hp laptop, about 2 years old.  something really weird happened today.  I was downloading skype, then as soon as it finished downloading, my computer started having problems.  first, my screen started refreshing really slowly and there were weird areas of my screen where certain pixels would make long streaks of random colors, mostly red, green, and blue.  then my screen started flashing on and off, and eventually i could not see at all what was on my screen.  I turned it off, then tried to do a system recover to a time before i downloaded skype, but it kept doing the same thing.  I don't know if it is a virus or some kind of hardware malfunction, because my laptop is kind of old and the hinge that holds on the screen is starting to break, but i think it is not likeley that a hardware problem would just happen to show up right after i downloaded something.  If you can help me figure out what it is, it would be really helpful

Answer
Try updating the video card drivers.  If that doesnt work, you might need a new motherboard or the laptop monitor might be going bad as well.

Download the latest drivers, then if that doesnt work....plug in a real monitor to the laptop and see if the same thing happens.
