Windows XP - winlogon.exe

Expert: Michael Tedeschi - 6/5/2009

Question
Every time I logon I get this winlogon encountered an error message, the system starts up and when I get to click on the splash screen I close it ( there seems no point in sending it to microsoft who do nothing anyway)..the computer then behaves perfectly normally, apart from the fact that the startup sounds don't happen. Then when I shut down it comes up with another screen that says there was a problem do I want to debug or cancel, I've tried both. It makes no difference the computer shuts down, turns off and then comes up with a blue screen saying there was a fatal system error with lots of error codes, which mean nothing to me. I then turn off the computer manually. next time I start up, same thing all over again. I tried uniblue registry cleaner - no difference. I tried Regcure - no difference. I tried Wise registry cleaner - no difference. For some bizaar reason every so often it starts normally no problem message, startup sounds work, boots upquicker and shuts down properly, this may happen one or two times and then goes back to the original problem. I have the feeling that these registry cures have caused the problem - maybe you know better or can help

Answer
Hello

Never download programs that help clean the registry.  They usually cause more harm than good.

Sounds like you have some corruption in your Operating System.

Try running a Windows Repair Installation
