I am running Windows XP home edition and installed SP2 via an automatic update. As a result of this install there have been major problems with my computer. (the it's never going to happen to me crash happened and I did not have the drive backed up). I spent hours working with the Microsoft SP2 tech. support but they did not help at all. I actually think things were working better before they helped. The end result of their help was that I was told the drive was faulty and I should contact the hardware manufacturer.
I replaced the hard drive with a new one not because I felt it was faulty but so as not to overwrite anything that was on the drive. Due to the fact that all the operating system files are still on the drive I can not boot the computer if the old drive is connected using the hard drive cradle. I can not see the files that are on the drive if I boot and then attach the cradle containing the drive. I get an error message saying that the drive is not formatted.
I am sure that the data is still on the drive but I need to know of some data recovery software that I can use to get the data back. I have searched the internet and found several but I dont think any of them work well enough to purchase the full versions. Can you suggest any data recovery software that might help me get my files back.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions you can give me. Off to back up my hard drive now :-)
Cheers
Chris
Answer Hi Chris,
I would of suggested that you uninstall Windows XP SP2 and see if that cleared up your problems. Please see the following site:
