Question
Hello Mike!
THIS MAY BE A DUPLICATE EMAIL. I wrote it but don't remember if I sent it! :(

Is it possible to purchase 2 ACADEMIC licenses for  for Windows XP PRO Upgrade Academic version?

I have Windows XP PRO Upgrade ACADEMIC installed on my main computer.

I have two other computers, With Windows ME. I want to upgrade them both to Windows XP PRO Upgrade ACADEMIC version.

Is is possible for me to buy 2 ACADEMIC licenses?

If I buy this:

<<UPGRADE Windows XP Pro Upgrade English Open License 6.0 AE
by By Microsoft Open Academic - MS Open License 6.0 Academic Edition (for $66.51>>

will I be able to upgrade my two other computers?>>

What does "OPEN" mean?

Is the license good for one computer only or both computers?

The description states "3 Variants". Does that mean 3 licenses?

How can I tell if this is one of those licenses that can only be installed on one computer but even if uninistalled cannot be used for another computer?

Since eventually, I will  build a new computer, is itpossible, to use the license on the new computer, provided that I remove it from the old (Windows ME) computer?

DOes one need
<<SOFTWARE ASSURANCE Windows XP Pro Software Assure English
OL 6.0 AE>>?

What is it?

If you can think of an easier, legal solution, please let me know!

Thanks a zillion!

Pat

P.S. For just home use and internet surfing, is HOME acceptable?

Answer
Hello,

Each license is for one computer. Considering it is for the 'academic' version and it is for "upgrade" only, this is a very reasonable price, considering you are getting a full working operating system. The word "academic" means that you are only entitled to buy this if you are part of an educating faculty which means "starving students with no money" so yes, this is well worth it, considering XP Home edition upgrade sells for over $100.

Remember these are "upgrades" which mean you have to have a previous windows operating system already installed.

Hope this helps.

Expertise

I am proficient with all windows platforms. Installation and maintenance of home/business networks and servers. Windows 7, Vista. If you are still using XP then your system is simply too old to be safely surfing the internet and you should upgrade the operating system to Windows 7. If you have windows xp then your question will simply be forwarded to the question pool as I no longer feel it is worthy of my volunteered time, Since Windows 7 can handle systems with as little as 512mb of RAM memory, you have no excuse to not upgrade. If you are having problems and you are using XP there is no point in asking since the problem is with the operating system. Microsoft has stopped supporting this operating system as it is now over 10 years old.. time to upgrade!
