if i accidentally delete a partition and dont put any new files on that external drive, can i recover the data. if yes then how ?

I wouldn't hold my breath trying but you could do a search in tucows.com or downloads.com for "data recovery" (no quotes) and you may get lucky !
BTW.. this has NOTHING to do with WinXP.. Please use the appropriate forums when you ask questions.. In your case, Harddrive Problems or Shareware/freeware forums would have been the proper ones !
