About Jesse H.
Expertise
I have been working with Windows XP since it was released. I know a lot of shortcuts; some are specific to Windows XP and some work with previous versions of Windows, too. I am working in the Windows registry almost on a daily basis, so I can help with configurations, too.

Experience
I have worked with Windows XP since it was released. Before it was released, I worked with Windows 2000 and Windows NT.

Windows XP - spyware? adware?

Question
Hi,

I bought a winbook laptop less than a year ago and OS is windows xp.  I've been having problems with constant, annoying ads and pop-ups occuring.  I used a spyware program called spyware stormer but it doesn't seem to help.  The biggest problem I have is whenever I tried to connect to any webpage every now and then, there will be a porn webpage(same one everytime) loads up on the page.  This happen pretty often, probably once every 7 times that I tried to go on any webpage then it will load up instead of intended webpage.  Then I will have to click "back" and reenter the intended website address again.  So how do I correct this problem?  Any advice will be greatly appreciate.

Thanks,
Tommy

Answer
Hi, Tommy!

I have read a number of reports that Spyware Stormer is just as bad as the software it claims to eliminate.  There are some that claim they have not had problems with it, but I have read of many, many others that got pop-ups as a result of this program.

I recommend that you install both Spybot Search & Destroy (http://computercops.biz/downloads-file-108.html) and AdAware (http://dw.com.com/redir?pid=10319876&merid=69274&mfgid=69274&lop=link&edId=3&sit...).  These two programs complement each other well and are often installed side-by-side.  Once they are both installed and up to date, scan you system and see what they find.

Let me know if this helps.

Sincerely,
 Jesse
