About David Ling
Expertise
I have 40 year`s experience tasting, collecting and enjoying wines as an amateur enthusiast. Bordeaux and Port are my particular loves and I regularly buy and sell at auction. I have a good library and frequently participate in on-line discussions. I can only help with valuations, buying or selling if you tell me where you live as there are many variations around the world.

Experience
I would not feel confident answering questions on German wines or those of the USA, South Africa or Australia. But please check my prestige rating and browse "Browse Past Answers" at the top of this page to see if I'm the one you want to help on everything else! (PLEASE don't forget to tell me where you are if you want my estimation of value or help buying or selling!)

Organizations
I also participate regularly on several other discussion groups.

Wine - 1975 Offley colheito port

Expert: David Ling - 11/1/2009

Question
I have a few bottles of Offley Port Baron de Forrester "1975" colheito.  Black Label.
I received 1999 - 2000 and it has been properly stored since that time.  Should I
drink it now, or will it be OK for a while longer?  Any idea of value? I am east coast USA.
TY

Answer
Hi Gerald,

Offley have a better reputation for their Colheitas, or aged Tawnies from a single vintage, than for some other styles so I think you'll enjoy these.

As you have several, I'd open one soon and make my own judgement from what you find but I think you'll probably think they'll be fine for a few years yet before they decline.

I can't give an accurate valuation figure for these as I can't find any US retail prices to guide me. But I think Wine Commune (http://www.winecommune.com/) might suggest one somewhere in the $50/100 range if you were to ask them to appraise them as potential auction entries.

Regards,

David
