Question
I am interested in becoming a wine distributor in Washington state and really don't have any idea how to start. Where would I find information about this. I have looked on the web, and there really isn't much information about it.
Thank you,

Answer
Hi Cat

It's a major undertaking, that's for sure.  THe first step is that you will have to apply for a license to do business as a distributor--and that license is issued by the State of Washington's Alcohol Beverage Control department.  They have local offices around the state, because they are also in charge of licensing retailers and restaurants.  Give them a call to get an idea of what kind of paperwork is involved---it is pretty lengthy and complicated, and you will probably have to provide some assurances that you are planning to operate in an ethical manner.

Since the repeal of Prohibition in 1933/34, each state has different laws and regulations about alcohol, so you really have to check with the local authorities
