Wine - good bottle? worthless?

Expert: Joshua Farrell - 11/6/2009

Question
recently i was given two vintage bottles. both 3L.

1995 Talus cab sauv
1998 Rodney Strong cab sauv...

cannot find any info online really... are they good? trash? should i store them? drink them? are they worth anything?

Answer
Derek,

Three-liter bottles are always impressive and great fun for parties. Those two Cabs are not the most prestigious and may have cost $40 or $50 when they were first purchased. Their age is an issue. Neither wine is one that you'd expect to age this long, particularly the 1998 which was a poor vintage. However the large size of the bottle does slow the aging process somewhat. Value-wise, there's very little there, certainly less than their original costs. You may want to open one and try it out, you could be pleasantly surprised.
