About David Ling
Expertise I have 40 year`s experience tasting, collecting and enjoying wines as an amateur enthusiast. Bordeaux and Port are my particular loves and I regularly buy and sell at auction. I have a good library and frequently participate in on-line discussions.
I can only help with valuations, buying or selling if you tell me where you live as there are many variations around the world.
Experience I would not feel confident answering questions on German wines or those of the USA, South Africa or Australia. But please check my prestige rating and browse "Browse Past Answers" at the top of this page to see if I'm the one you want to help on everything else! (PLEASE don't forget to tell me where you are if you want my estimation of value or help buying or selling!)
Organizations I also participate regularly on several other discussion groups.

Wine - wine valuation

Question Dear David
My family and I have recently purchased a new (old!) house and in the cellar are some interesting looking bottles of wine. I do not profess to be any sort of wine connoisseur but I do recognise that a couple may be valuable and wondered if you would be able to value them. I have not disturbed them and they look like they have probably stood still since being purchased as I know the previous owner was at the house for fifty years.
I shall list the bottles as best as I can depict the writing on them;
1975 Barolo Azienda Vitivinicola Giovanni Scanavino
1985 Mouton Cadet Bordeaux Baron Philippe
1988 Stettener Heuchelberg Muller Thurgau Trocken
1986 & 1982 Baden Spatburgunder Weibheroft
1973 Heppersheimer Schlopberg
we have a few bottles with the labels rather perished and I can not depict the text on these.
Yours sincerely
Tom
Answer Hi Tom,
I'm sorry but these are all now too old to have retained any value they may have had - and none was ever very valuable anyway - so these are either for the tip or Bigwood's in Stratford-upon-Avon (http://www.bigwoodauctioneers.com/) if you are ever passing. (They often get good prices for old oddments but don't make a special journey!)
Regards,
David
