Wine/Ferreira port

Ferreira port
Ferreira port
Hello, we have a bottle of Ferreira port. the only writing on the label (that you can't see on photo) is stowells of chelsea and 26fl oz, matured in wood, produce of Portugal est 1751. It also has  selected ruby on the collar but it has no other details or labels. Are you able to tell us any more about the date or whether it is worth drinking or not.
Many thanks

Hi Kate,

Ferreira are the leading Portuguese-owned Port house so this will be a good example of a good-quality Ruby Port.

However, these are always blended from several vintages so there is no way to date them. They do not improve with age but I'd have no hestation about drinking it as your bottle seems to be in good condition.

I have 40 year`s experience tasting, collecting and enjoying wines as an amateur enthusiast. Bordeaux and Port are my particular loves and I regularly buy and sell at auction. I have a good library and frequently participate in on-line discussions. I can only help with valuations, buying or selling if you tell me where you live as there are many variations around the world.

I would not feel confident answering questions on German wines or those of the USA, South Africa or Australia. But please check my prestige rating and browse "Browse Past Answers" at the top of this page to see if I'm the one you want to help on everything else! (PLEASE don't forget to tell me where you are if you want my estimation of value or help buying or selling!)

I also participate regularly on several other discussion groups.
