You are here:

Wine/Vintage port an Clan Dew ( wine and whiskey)

Hi David I live in the uk and have recently been given a bottle of Taylors late bottled vintage port dated 1979 and a very old looking bottle of Clan Dew ( not sure about date of this but could be from similar period) . Can you please let me know the value of these.

Kind Regards

Hi Christine,

You might get bids in the order of £30/40 for the LBV at auction if the bottle is in good condition regarding level, lable and capsule.

The Clan Dew is less valuable though as the whisky was used to fortify bulk 'British' (IE imported) wine to produce a so-called liqueur. It wouldn't be easy to sell, I'm afraid.

I have 40 year`s experience tasting, collecting and enjoying wines as an amateur enthusiast. Bordeaux and Port are my particular loves and I regularly buy and sell at auction. I have a good library and frequently participate in on-line discussions. I can only help with valuations, buying or selling if you tell me where you live as there are many variations around the world.

I would not feel confident answering questions on German wines or those of the USA, South Africa or Australia.
