Wine/Chateau Mouton wine! Does it have a value?

Question
Hi,

After a night of cards at my friends place, we got to a bet that he couldn't cover and he ended up putting forward a couple of bottles of wine, after a while he had me convinced that they were of some reasonable value, so I accepted.

I won, and walked away, very very skeptically, with two bottles of Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1995 and 1996!

My question is, did I really win the bet? (the bet was for $250) and, can I drink them now or do I need to wait a few years?

Cheers

Trevor

Answer
Hi Trevor,

I'll buy the bet for $251!

These will both repay cellaring in a cool dark place for another couple of years or more but - assuming from your use of the $ sign that you are in the US - the best US retail values I can find are $200 for the '95 and $179 for the '96, plus taxes.

Well done - and well done to your friend for his honesty.

Regards.

David
